Environmental compliance is built into how Arlo designs, manufactures, and retires its products. We hold our products to all applicable environmental regulations and directives in every market we serve, covering restricted and hazardous substances, packaging, batteries, and electronic waste. We review compliance at every design change, proactively phase out substances of concern, and monitor evolving global requirements across PFAS, packaging, and Extended Producer Responsibility so our products stay safe, compliant, and sustainable as the regulatory landscape shifts.

Substances in Our Products

EU RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU) — Limits hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and certain flame retardants and plasticizers in electrical and electronic equipment. Arlo products are RoHS compliant with the use of certain exemptions, and a certificate of compliance is available on request. EU Declarations of Conformity for Arlo products.

UK RoHS — Great Britain’s restrictions mirror EU RoHS, and the UK now indefinitely recognizes CE marking for these products. Arlo products sold in Great Britain carry the CE mark and are assessed against the UK Regulations’ substance exemptions.

Taiwan RoHS (CNS 15663) — Taiwan’s restricted substance requirements for electronics. Products sold in Taiwan carry a hazardous substance disclosure table and the BSMI commodity inspection mark with the appropriate RoHS symbol.

EU REACH (Regulation (EC) 1907/2006) — Europe’s framework for the safe use of chemicals. Arlo products are classed as "articles" under REACH; we can provide information on Substances of Very High Concern and on substances restricted under Annex XVII on request.

UK REACH — The United Kingdom’s parallel chemicals regime, with its own candidate and restriction lists. Arlo applies the same disclosure approach to products sold in the UK.

EU POPs Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2019/1021) — Prohibits or strictly limits persistent organic pollutants, including PFOA, PFOS, and related fluorinated compounds. Arlo requires its suppliers to keep these substances out of our products and packaging.

Canada Prohibition of Certain Toxic Substances Regulations (SOR/2012-285) — Prohibits a defined group of longer-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids (PFCAs), their salts, and related substances in products placed on the Canadian market. Arlo bans these substances outright across all materials and components and requires its suppliers to confirm their absence.

US Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) — The federal law governing chemical use in the United States. Arlo tracks TSCA restrictions and prohibits the affected substances across our materials and components.

California Proposition 65 — Requires warnings where a product exposes consumers to listed chemicals above defined levels. Rather than rely on labeling, Arlo’s design standard is to keep Proposition 65 chemicals out of the external parts of our products that customers touch. Bisphenol A (BPA) — Arlo applies its own BPA concentration limit to parts with direct or prolonged skin contact and prohibits any material that exceeds it, gating BPA at material selection rather than relying on exposure assessment and warning labels. Polycarbonate and PC-blend exterior parts are verified by independent accredited laboratories.

PFAS — Arlo requires its suppliers to disclose PFAS across all materials, prohibits the restricted fluorinated compounds outright.

Batteries

EU Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542) — Europe’s rules for battery labeling, safety, hazardous substances, and end-of-life handling. Arlo batteries meet the requirements in force today, including CE marking, the separate collection symbol, and the required identification, composition, and safe-handling information. Where the regulation phases in further obligations, those requirements sit on Arlo’s compliance roadmap ahead of their legal deadlines.

UK Battery Regulation — The United Kingdom’s requirements for batteries and accumulators. Arlo batteries carry the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, showing they must be recycled rather than binned, plus the chemical symbol for any lead, cadmium, or mercury present above the permitted level.

Packaging

EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2025/40, "PPWR") — Europe’s packaging framework, which replaced Directive 94/62/EC in August 2026, covering heavy metals, packaging minimization, recyclability, recycled content, and consumer sorting information. Arlo packaging meets the requirements in force today, and a Declaration of Conformity for Arlo product packaging is available on request. PPWR phases in further obligations through 2030 and beyond — harmonized labeling, recyclability grading, recycled content minimums, and limits on empty space — each of which sits on Arlo’s compliance roadmap ahead of its legal deadline.

Italy Packaging Labeling (Legislative Decrees 116/2020 and 288/2022) — Requires material identification codes and separate collection guidance in Italian. Arlo applies a combined label covering every packaging component.

France Triman (Decrees 2014-1577 and 2021-835) — Requires the Triman logo and sorting information on packaging, printed materials, equipment, and batteries. Arlo applies the Triman mark and French-language sorting guidance across our EU packaging.

US Toxics in Packaging — Model legislation developed by the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) and adopted by a number of US states, restricting heavy metals and phthalates in packaging and requiring PFAS to be non-detectable. Arlo applies these limits to all packaging supplied to us, regardless of which market it ships to.

Recyclability and Recycled Content — Arlo requires paper packaging — gift boxes, master cartons, trays, manuals, and inserts — to be recyclable, and requires plastic packaging to be recyclable and marked with its resin code. We also work with our suppliers to increase the post-consumer recycled content in our paper packaging.

How We Verify

The requirements described on this page are enforced through our supplier standards, independent testing, and audit. Arlo suppliers are required to meet our restricted substance compliance requirements, and are expected to extend those requirements through their own supply chains.

Independent laboratory testing. Test reports must come from laboratories accredited to ISO 17025 for the relevant method, using the internationally recognized IEC 62321 test methods, with results reported at homogeneous material level.

Supplier inspection and audit. Suppliers maintain their own incoming inspection and surveillance testing programs, and Arlo audits their compliance processes. Where a non-conformance is found, we issue a corrective action request and track it to closure.

Documentation on request. Certificates of compliance, declarations of conformity, and substance information can be provided to customers and business partners on request.

Extended Producer Responsibility

Extended Producer Responsibility, or EPR, places responsibility for a product at the end of its life on the company that places it on the market, rather than on the consumer or the local authority. In practice, this means registering with the relevant authority or producer responsibility organization, reporting the volumes placed on each market, funding the collection and recycling of that material, and marking products and packaging so customers know how to dispose of them correctly.

Arlo meets these obligations across three material streams — electrical and electronic equipment, batteries, and paper and packaging — through the programs below.

United States, paper and packaging. Arlo is a member of the Circular Action Alliance, the producer responsibility organization established to help companies meet state-level packaging EPR laws. We are registered and reporting in California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Washington, and will extend coverage as further states bring their programs into force.

United States, batteries. Arlo participates in The Battery Network, formerly Call2Recycle, which operates battery collection and recycling nationally.

Canada, electronics. Arlo reports to the Electronic Products Recycling Association, which operates electronics recycling programs across Canada, and to the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority, which regulates electronics and battery recycling under Ontario’s circular economy legislation.

British Columbia, packaging and printed paper. Arlo reports to Recycle BC, which operates residential recycling collection across the province.

Europe and the United Kingdom. Arlo products are placed on the European and UK markets by our distribution partner, who acts as the producer of record and submits the required registrations, reports, and payments. Arlo supports this with regular data on the equipment, batteries, and packaging concerned, and our Environmental Compliance team works alongside our partner as each phased requirement under the EU Battery Regulation and PPWR comes into effect.

EU WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU) — Establishes producer responsibility for the collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment across Europe, and underpins the registration and reporting described above.

Recycling Your Arlo Products

The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol (EN 50419) on an Arlo product, its batteries, or its packaging means the item must not be placed in household waste. Please take it instead to a collection point for the recycling of batteries and electrical and electronic equipment. Separate collection and recycling conserves natural resources and prevents the harm to human health and the environment that improper disposal of hazardous substances can cause.
